I visited Cakes by Karyn (now A Cake Odyssey on north 4th St) twice before officially booking them for my wedding. The first time I had just come down with a terrible stomach flu and, obviously, I was so NOT into trying wedding cake, but went through with it anyway. My mom and sister tried the cake and liked it, so I decided to come back for another tasting later w/ my then-fiance. They did the second tasting for free (which was awesome--I was totally expecting to pay), and my fiance and I both liked it, too, so we booked. They went above and beyond on our custom cake and even accommodated a change I had just days before the wedding. The cake itself was beautiful and delicious, and we still get compliments on it. I would wholeheartedly recommend them!

Karyn did a fabulous job with our cake. They were extremely friendly, helpful, and easy to work with. And the cake was delicious! We tried cakes all over Albuquerque and hers were by far the most yummy. And the prices were reasonable. I did a lot of research and am confident that she is the best!

UCbK is now Cake Odyssey. They were awesome! We ordered two cakes, obviously one for our wedding and another for our mom's birthday. We didn't even see the bday cake till pick up. We showed them a flower scheme and purpley colors we wanted and WOW it was amazing! The only issue was the cake was a little late. Being that is was during Balloon Fiesta, it was understandable, it was there way before the ceremony even started. Just the hotel was expecting it earlier. The taste of the wedding cake was complimented by everyone. RECOMMEND Red Velvet and Cream Cheese filling... WOW!!!!

The quality of work in their book in in-store samples seemed much higher than what we received. The cake tasted great, but aesthetically, I was underwhelmed.

This company has actually changed its name to A Cake Odyssey but it's still just a great! I was recommended this cake place by every one of my other vendors. I wasn't sure why they had changed the name but we took a trip down to the shop and tasted the different varieties of cake. Everything they had was delicious! They had a bunch of options for cakes be we wanted something simple and they put together exactly what I had in mind. Great stuff!

We had a sheet cake that was decorated in camoflauge for the grooms cake. It tasted wonderful!! The camoflauge was a little off from what we thought it would look like but was still amazing!!! Our wedding cake was the mad hatter design! It was awesome!!!! Once again I thought the blue would be a but darker but it still looked amazing!!! Everything tasted awesome! The grooms cake was chocolate with raspberry and the wedding cake was spice with Bavarian cream! We were very happy overall with everything!

Very disappointing. Carrot cake did not taste like the one we sampled during our tasting review. Cake was dry, no nuts or carrots and it tasted like a spice cake. Several guests commented on how dry it was. Everyone looks forward to the cake and we had bragged on how delicious the cake was going to be. The decorating was beautiful and they did arrive and set up on time. Just expected a little more.

Unfortunately for us, our experience with this vendor was poor and we would NOT recommend them. In my opinion, a great cake can be summed up into two parts: how it looks and how it tastes. Our cake tasted great (red velvet). Sadly, they made the cake wrong and it did not look the way we had shown them it should. It was a very simple cake, which we had given them specific instructions for and a photo of, and they did not follow them. All we asked for were three square tiers (small, medium, and large) stacked in a certain way so that I could lay calla lilies on the edges of each tier. Because they stacked the tiers wrong, the flowers we had bought for our cake did not fit and were wasted. When I got to our reception and saw the cake and that it was wrong, my heart nearly collapsed. I was so disappointed, especially because it was such a simple cake and should have been near impossible to screw up. After calling them and explaining what occurred with our cake, they offered a $50 in store credit. They stated that it was their fault and that they had forgot to write down the correct insturctions for the baker, saying it was a "really busy weekend". I was able to stress that this was not acceptable to my husband and I, and that a $50 store credit was not sufficient in our minds, in terms of what happened and that the cake had cost us $400. They did finally offer a $100 refund after I explained to them that this was an extremely simple cake to make and should not have been done wrong. They did apologize, but also made excuses about being busy, which I felt was unacceptable. I would not recommend them to anyone and am very sad about what happened with our cake. No matter what the refund amount, nothing will ever make up for the fact that I will always remember how our cake did not look the way we was hoping for and that it wasn't what we wanted or even liked.

Our wedding cake was absolutely delicious! Several guests commented that it was the best wedding cake they had ever tasted. We chose a very basic and simple design for the cake and it was delivered to us exactly as we had ordered.

Ok, I have to admit that the end result was delicious and exactly the look I wanted, but it took a lot of hassle and money to get it. I think that they know that their cakes are good and they can take advantage of brides because most of them will pay for a quality cake. When I went for my tasting, I told them that I wanted a 4 tier square cake with separation between tiers and they said they couldn't do it because it wouldn't be structurally stable. So I compromised and went with round tiers. As time went on I really wanted square so I asked my planner to find me a baker that could give me exactly what I wanted. I don't know if she convinced Unique Cakes to do square tiers, but all of a sudden they were able to do it for an extra $50.00. Ok fine, I'll pay. Well when my RSVP's came I ended up with 30 less people so I asked if we could substitute a tier with Styrofoam so 30 pieces of cake didn't go to waste. I still wanted the look of 4 tiers but just not all that extra cake. They said that it will cost me more for a Styrofoam tier!! How do they expect anybody in their right mind to believe that a block of Styrofoam costs more than the actual cake itself?! Realistically wouldn't it be cheaper than flour, sugar, eggs, etc., and less time consuming since they don't have to cut and fill layers of the cake? Talk about taking advantage of brides!!! I ended up with a lot of extra delicious tasting cake and feeling like I totally got taken advantage of. Cost of cake was about $4.50 pp so I ended up wasting about $150.00 because of them. This bakery is totally unprofessional and takes advantage of brides during vulnerable times.

Wonderful cake! It was delicious, moist, and beautiful! We had fondant frosting, white cake, and lemon filling...3 tier round...perfect for a summer wedding. Our flourist decorated it when it arrived at the ceremony site (the best value if you can work that with your florist, Karyn's charges extra for flowers put on at the bakery). The cake was delivered 30 minutes early, with a little bit of an additional fee because it was a Sunday and in Bernalillo. Every phone call was handled well; the man who works the front of the store appears to be a bit scatter-brained, even while filling out the order forms, but the cake was exactly how we had ordered it. Our cake was approx. $4.50/slice. Every other wedding vendor in the area that we spoke with highly recommended Karyn's for the cake because they are reputed to have cakes that both LOOK and TASTE good, and indeed we were impressed!

When we walked in we were greeted and sat down to discuss all the options, which seems unlimited. We tried a variety of cakes and fillings. They were not "fresh out of the oven" but they were not bad, and better then others we had tried. They created a custom design on the cake to match the dresses lace. It turned out nice, nothing too spectacular though. It was only a 3 tier square cake, and cost almost 900.... really pricey. and they seem a bit over protective of their cake stands, requiring a 200 "deposit check" which is returned to you when the stand is returned, but they must have told us 15 times about returning it. at the reception the cake was very good though, not stale, it was fresh, they showed up on time and there were no issues.
